We’re very pleased to announce that Portuguese virtuoso, DJ Marfox, will be joining us to release on Pollinate. Born in the former Portuguese colony of São Tomé e Príncipe off the coast of Africa and later moving to Lisbon he’s long been producing his own vision of Kuduro, more specifically Batida which focuses on instrumentals. He’s now holds a much respected status as one of Portugal’s most cutting edge producers and DJs. Recognised as one of the premier champions of the Lisbon sound he released on Jesse & Crabbe’s Bazzerk compilation (a big favourite of ours, fully recommended to anyone interested in this scene) in 2011. More recently his debut EP came out on the new, Lisbon-based Principe label. It got rave reviews from Boomkat, Resident Advisor and many more.

He’s a staple resident of Lisbon’s relentlessly thriving nightlife, regularly playing at big clubs such as Lux and the Principe nights at Musicbox alongside contemporaries on the scene such as Buraka Som Systema, Diamond Bass, Zombies For Money, Octa Push, Photonz, DJ Nervoso

The Marfox sound is a fascinating mix that amalgamates Kuduro, UK Funky, SA Kwaito and Samba although doesn’t sound specifically like any. Sharp stabbing synth melodies, booming bass and super, Bateria-powered percussion really drive every track into new territory. Which is why we’ve hooked up with him – to bring a new sound out of Lisbon to new ears…

To wet the appetite he’s recorded a brand new mix, packed full of new tunes by friends, family and himself, of course: –

Look out for a new DJ Marfox EP, out Summer 2012 on Pollinate.
