JUMPING BACK SLASH: Nectah III EP

Jumping Back Slash returns with a brand new EP, Nectah 003. He’s pulled out all the stops and laid down six tunes that fully express his sound and move South African House into a new era.

The EP is introduced by the metallic explosion of Flaai Baba. With its sexy vocal chops, tough bassline and Funky snares driving the track it’s, sonically, the closest JBS has come to his native UK.

Second track Pap En Jam, is straight up Cape Town hype though with proper Kwaito grooves, and local vocalist Qubekani The Ndola emanating the new sound of their beloved city.

Definitely the stand out club track on the EP is Shosholozaaaaa. There’s no doubting his ability to make a vocal shine and JBS doesn’t beat around the bush when it comes to remixing a traditional, classic South African folk song. It’s known by all and has been sung by greats such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, SA’s footy team used it as they came onto the field in 2010 World Cup and even Nelson Mandela sang it as he worked during his days of imprisonment. Instead of dwelling on tradition though JBS kicks South Africa’s 2nd national anthem into 2011 and beyond.

The second half of the EP hits much deeper territory. No Love and Running Back (dub) with their seriously warm, dub synths, soulfully hollering vocals and the sort of crazy percussion that would make Timberland jealous.

The EP ends up on more traditional JBS notes with his trademark melancholic synthesizers waving goodbye in the sound of Ubusuku.

Heads like Spoek Mathambo, Benji B, Isa GT, Chrissy Murderbot, Mosca, LV, Warrior One, the Red Bull Studio Cape Town crew and many more are tuned into his sound and with this collection of tracks Jumping Back Slash has surpassed all expectations, truly stamping his mark as a production force to be reckoned with.
