We’ve been collecting our favourite mixes all year over at our Soundcloud page and there have been too many wicked sets but a handful of genius DJs were listened to by us in ‘09 much more than others…
• JUMPING BACK SLASH - SOUTH AFRICAN BANGERS MIX
This mix sealed it for us, he said he couldn’t DJ at all and then popped this little gem in our inbox…pure summertime Kwaito tunes, so fresh and in tune with South African house music we welcomed him into our home as the newest member of the Pollinate family.

• BLACKMETALSOUNDSYSTEM - ‘DOOMBOX’ MIXTAPE 2009
Shockingly beautiful…total super-futurist-metal-digi-dancehall beats with a playful punk venom. The first 5 mins are incredible, the last 15 mins are jaw-dropping.

• SOUNDGOODS TRIBALISMO MIX:
Best Soundgoods mix and the best Mexican Tribal mix ever to make it out of the bargain bins of Mexico City.

• HANUMAN’ S STEAK HOUSE Z-SHED MIXTAPE
Steak House Records are by far one of our favourite new labels to launch this year and head honcho Hanuman, one half of team Monkey Steak, dropped this stunning mix full of exclusives from the Steak House family and friends.

• SQUARED - TAKE IT AS YOU WISH MIX
A mix that changed everything for us and paved a fresh direction for Pollinate. 2010!

• THE CARETAKER - DELVING INTO MY PAST FOR FACT [Fact Mag mix]
There’s nobody out there like him and this mix propelled his mysterious, ambient sounds to a much greater audience in 2009 and sat him on the cult pedestal. Like trapped memories echoing down West Park Asylum’s decaying corridors, it’s a beautiful cross-breed of sweet ghostly lullabies and harrowing dirges.

• L-VIS 1990 - DUBPLATES MIX ‘09
Without doubt one of the best producer/DJs to come out of London’s bulging club scene for a while. 2009 was his and this mix mix was just the start…hopefully there’s much more to come.

• KUBO - MIX FOR THE GILLES PETERSON SHOW [BBC RADIO 1]
Stefan Moerth has been dropping bass bombs for too long without enough recognition. His Kubo project is one of the most creative dancefloor productions, pounding tribal rhythms, driving vocals from an array of worldwide vocalists and the deepest warped bass sounds we’ve heard this year. This mix is addictive.

• GHOSTS ON TAPE - MIX FOR MARY ANNE HOBBS SHOW [BBC RADIO 1]
This one’s a killer…it was a heavy way to start the year so let’s end it on that note. Ghosts On Tape has been racking up a wealth of big tunes in 2009 and is definitely a name to check in 2010.
